Killzone 2 Has Arrived!

News by Craig Bryan on  Feb 23, 2009

Killzone 2 was first announced at E3 2005, with a trailer helping to showcase what the people at Guerrilla Games and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe had hidden up their sleeves. The trailer soon caused controversy across the gaming world, and internet forums were abuzz with people arguing back and forth as to whether the graphics were in-game or CGI generated. Since then the game has built momentum and quickly become one of the most hotly anticipated titles of this seventh generation of gaming, with some dubbing it ‘the saviour’ of the PlayStation 3, due to recent poor sales of the console.

Now we’re only hours away from finally getting our hands on a copy, after four long years, and some long-standing scores can finally be settled. Judging by the reviews thus far, the game excels in almost every area - not just graphically. However, this seems to be its main strength. The Australian Official PlayStation Magazine described it as having “amazing, fluid graphics and animation,” with “beautifully constructed levels.” The UK Official PlayStation Magazine states “anyone who’s seen recent footage will know it’s the most handsome thing on the system,” whilst Edge Magazine, although disappointed by some aspects, told of its “unparalleled graphics.”

In a recent interview with Steven Ter Heide, Guerrilla Games producer, he talks of how he and his team coped with the overwhelming hype “Ever since the infamous 2005 trailer we’ve been under so much pressure to deliver. And it’s been a long journey for us--four years in the making, and hopefully the result is exactly what people expected.” He continued “You kind of have to be quiet and try to ignore the forums as much as you can. In 2007, when we were finally able to show a level and say this is actual game play, put your hands on the controller yourself, that was the big moment we were working towards. Last couple of years it was just finishing up the game and making sure we get everything we wanted in there.”

Killzone 2 was released yesterday in Europe, today in Australia, and tomorrow in the United Kingdom and North America.
