Microsoft has announced the sale of one million Kinect motion-sensing units in its first ten days of release, and according to their estimates, they hope that figure rises to five million by the end of the year.

"This is a great start to the holiday season," said Don Mattrick, president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. "Consumers are loving it."

Kinect has already launched in North America, Europe and Columbia, and with Australia set to join the party Wednesday and Asia on Friday, thing’s are looking mightily positive for the software giant.

"We will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than five million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year," Mattrick said in a statement.

Comparing the sales figures to Sony’s Move technology, they sold around one million units in the Americas in their first month, and one and a half million units in Europe.

The ultimate goal for Microsoft will undoubtedly be to boost their already impressive sales figures of forty-five million Xbox 360 consoles sold since its release.

You can pick up your copy of Kinect with Kinect Adventures now for £164.99 or $149.99, or the ultimate bundle package of the new Xbox 360 S, complete with 250GB HDD, Kinect and Kinect Adventures for £299.99 or $399.99.
