Lay-offs hit Saints Row and Homefront studios

A total of 33 game designers are now unemployed. Publisher THQ fired 17 of its employees with Kaos Studios (Homefront, Frontlines: Fuel of War), while 16 people  lost their positions at Volition (Saints Row, Red Faction).

Especially the lay-offs at Kaos may come as a bit of a surprise, seeing as their recently released game Homefront has sold over 1 million copies in its first month, despite the lackluster 72 rating at Metacritic.

The official reason THQ gave for the reorganisation is that they "must adjust our workforce to fit the studio's current needs", which indicates that THQ felt like it could do without a few employees now that the studio is primarily focusing on the development of DLC for Homefront.

If and how the lay-offs will affect Volition's current projects, Saints Row 3 and Red Faction: Armageddon, is unknown.
