MAG Goes Gold, Open Beta to Start Jan. 4

MAG (Massive Action Game) was originally to be released late of 2009. But it looks like Zipper Interactive has delayed to make some necessary changes to present the game in top condition. With 2010 on the horizon, Sony Computer Entertainment has recently announced that MAG has gone gold, and will most likely be launched around the last week of January.

More specifically, the North American and Asian versions of the game have gone gold, with the European edition awaiting certification access; no release date has been announced for that region as of late. This month, Sony also announced that the MAG open beta is now available for download, but players won't be able to actually enter the game until the 4th of January. The beta will be open from that day until January 10.

Zipper Interactive, most notably known for the SOCOM games, is planning to release MAG by January 26, 2010. This massive online shooter will support up to 256 players at a time, and players will be able to rank up in 3 different factions they can choose from. Whatever rank players hold depends on the perspective they will see. Commanders will have an overhead view of the battlefield, relatively similar to how a real-time strategy game functions, and those lower will have the standard first-person view, whether they're racking up headshots, or commanding their own squads to eliminate the opposing factions.
