Mass Effect 2 arrives on PS3 January 2011

There have been floating rumors going around lately that Mass Effect will eventually make its way to Sony’s console. Today, Electronic Arts has revealed that Mass Effect 2 will be released on the PlayStation 3 in January 2011.

Bioware CEO and Electronic Arts Vice President Ray Muzyka made the announcement during EA’s press conference at Gamescom earlier this morning. No specific details of any special features were spoken at the conference. According to a press release by EA, the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 “will include the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content.” It's highly likely all of the Mass Effect 2 DLCs released at this point will be included in the PS3 version, but no one can really say at this point.
Also, since EA did not mention Mass Effect 1 being ported to Sony’s console, that means PS3 owners will have to play Mass Effect 2 from scratch. No save files being carried over from the original, which only gives PS3 owners a chunk of the fun compared to what the 360 owners already have. Still, I imagine this kind of news is not something you at least can’t be excited about.
