Microsoft Asks For Feedback From Deaf Gamers
Data from the survey will help Xbox’s future accessibility
News by Fragnarok on Jun 17, 2020
This console generation has been increasing accessibility via customized control schemes, magnification, speech to text, and more. Now, Microsoft has released a new survey targeting Xbox players who are deaf or hard of hearing. This data will hopefully be used to improve the company’s video game systems and help inform developers about design choices.
Among the questions include what can be done to enhance the ease of play, and what is currently difficult to enjoy with a disability. The survey further inquiries if users have other conditions like blindness or chronic syndromes. The survey also asks about favorite games and genres, including titles that are unavailable on Xbox consoles and exclusive to Sony or Nintendo.
Currently, Microsoft has some oversight to improve experiences for all players. However, it is up to individual studios to decide how accessible their games are. For example, Sea of Thieves has been lauded for including direct game transcription and other methods of aiding players.
