MW3 Gamers Outrage

Infinity Ward who are considered one of the main developers for the number one selling Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 are coming under intense pressure from PlayStation 3 users who purchased their premium Elite service for $49.99 / £35.00 and are now being told they have to wait until February 28 to receive their first free downloadable content drop.

Those who purchased their Elite membership through the Xbox 360 were treated to two new maps in ‘Piazza’ and ‘Liberation’ on January 24th as Microsoft have an ongoing deal whereby they are guaranteed exclusivity on any content for a set period. However, what has fans disgruntled is they weren’t told that purchasing the Elite service on PS3 wouldn’t supersede that deal.

 

 

 

One PS3 owner said:

“We paid our money for this service just like everyone else. I can understand if a deal is in place for 360 users to get some stuff early, but when you’re offering a paid service for a game and charging the same price on both consoles then we either have to receive content at the same time or PS3 users should be paying less.”


What has escalated the situation is the confirmation that a further new map called ‘Overwatch’ that will take place atop a New York skyscraper (pictured above) would be landing on the 360 on February 21 meaning PS3 users will essentially be two drops behind in what has been promised to be a nine month season of content.

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist has tried to defend his company’s position on the matter several times always stating that they never once said that there would be a universal release, but the decision to not divulge a release schedule until now raises serious questions on the morality of the situation.
