New Deus Ex to feature in-game advertising?
News by Jesse Dolman on May 13, 2011
An Australian preview of Deus Ex: Human Revolution has revealed that Deus Ex: Human Revolution will, in all likelihood, feature a dynamic in-game advertising system.
When the writer of the article over at Games On Net discovered an Australian ad of McDonald's on a billboard in Deus Ex's future rendition of Detroit and tried to go back to take a screenshot of it, it had transformed into an Adidas ad.
If this is true, and if this 'feature' will make it into the final version of the game, this may just mark the beginning of a new era in the video game industry, in which in-game advertising is not limited to sport simulation titles and racing games. If we're unlucky, even big budget titles in the highest tiers of the industry will start spamming their audience with megalomanic advertisements by corporate mastodonts.

Son, I am disappoint.
Even though that may sound a bit melodramatic, it is lamentable that escapism, one of the factors that makes playing a video games so attractive, is rapidly losing ground to the same annoyances that plague everyday life.
