It's that time again. Nintendo has officially announced a Nintendo Direct for tomorrow, June 21st, 2023 amidst rumors circling the web. According to the leaker, Pyoro on Twitter, they announced we would be getting a new Direct as of yesterday, before Nintendo made their announcement. They also said we should expect to see a remake of a SNES classic and a new 2D Mario title. In what is likely the Switch's twilight years, could we be getting one last hurrah? How do you follow up on the grandest Zelda game of all time and a new entry in the Pikmin franchise with more excitement?
With a runtime of roughly 40 minutes, Nintendo fans should be in for a treat tomorrow. According to Nintendo, the Direct will be focused on games coming out this year, in addition to new details on Pikmin 4 ahead of its release this July. If we get a remake of a SNES classic and a new 2D Mario, that would be enough for a blowout. Metroid Prime 4 could possibly be getting a much-needed update on its development. There are many legacy franchises that Nintendo could resurrect for this event as well.
A few games still remain on the Wii U that have not been ported to the Switch. Star Fox Zero launched in 2016 for the Wii U and received backlash due to its clumsy control scheme. We have not seen the Star Fox crew since. This could be the time to re-release it with better controls and release it as part of Nintendo's 2023 holiday lineup. Xenoblade has soared in popularity in recent years, and what better way to complete the franchise than with 2015's Xenoblade X? That would be the last of the major first-party titles from Wii U to Switch.
The Nintendo Direct starts at 7:00 AM PT tomorrow, June 20th, 2023. It should be an exciting show!
