Nintendo scrapped a new handheld

According to a CNBC interview with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, Nintendo does not simply produce any old hardware they try to reinvent, whetever the image presented by Nintendo might have implied with Vitality Sensor for the Wii.

 

Iwata goes on to say that at one point in the last few years Nintendo threw away a completely finished peice of hardware, thats right, an all new gaming platform. He went on to reason why; for this fact might come as a shock to many loyals; "But when we are launching new hardware, the most important is thing is to sustain the momentum. If introducing new hardware won’t do anything to do that, well…"

 

Besides the marketing aspect and keeping Nintendo's momentum going, Iwata was asked about future consoles and stated that Sony and Microsoft's entrance to motion sensing technology might influence Nintendo's decisions in the near future. Iwata went on to metaphorically represent the gaming market as the "blue ocean". "We have the greater potential to create the blue ocean market when people are skeptical," he says. "So when we realize that other people are coming into [this] market … there are two things we [can] do. One is trying to intensify the fun nature of something we are already doing. The other is try to create a new blue ocean."

 

Looks as if Nintendo has many tickets on 'em.
