Norway Game Ban

Coop Norge, which is the largest coop chain in Norway, has taken what they deem to be violent video games out of stores, after it was revealed extremist and mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik played Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and World of Warcraft as he plotted his July 22 killing spree.

Behring Breivik initially killed eight people with an explosive device, before gunning down a further sixty-nine people, mostly teenagers, on the island of Utoeya, located on Norway’s fifth biggest lake, Tyrifjorden.

 

The stores director for non-food items Geir Inge Stokke, revealed that they took the decision "out of respect" for the seventy-seven people who died and their grieving families. "We don't want them to stumble upon violent video games while buying milk and bread in our stores," he continued.

They currently stock video games in fifty of their nine-hundred stores across the country, and have removed the aforementioned games and up to fifty other products deemed inappropriate for sale at this time.
