Pokémon Black and White announced

The Pokémon series shows no signs of stopping, as Nintendo recently announced the fifth generation of one of its best-selling franchises. The two new installments will be called Pokémon Black and White, and will hit store shelves in Japan this fall.

Details on the new pair of Pokémon games remain scarce at this point, but Nintendo promised the games will be a "groundbreaking evolution of all aspects." The games will also retain the traditional gameplay mechanics fans have come to know and love since Red and Blue. As such, people are still encouraged to trade between the two different versions to fill up their Pokédex, though new features are expected to be introduced when more information is released in the near future.

The fifth generation was already teased when two new Pokémon, Zorua, and its evolution, Zoroark, were first revealed on a Japanese TV variety show, Pokémon Sunday back in February. The official website for Pokémon Black and White is already up, but Nintendo said to expect more news on April 15.

[UPDATE]: New details were leaked on the latest CoroCoro magazine. Scans showed improved graphics from the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum games, with the battle scene and the overworld undergoing some new changes of how the games will look. Some of the details in the magazine included a hint of a new mode of transportation in the game. The latest issue will be released on April 15 as well. The magazine scans can be viewed here.
