Pokemon Sword and Shield Coming this 2019, 8th Generation Starters Revealed and Random Encounters Return

Yesterday, Nintendo confirmed that a special Pokemon Nintendo Direct and today it was met with overwhelm positive praise. With the reveal of the new Pokemon Sword and Shield, coming this year for Nintendo Switch.

In addition to the game's reveal, we were met by President and CEO of The Pokemon Company Tsunekazu Ishihara, Junichi Masuda who is working as the producer for Sword and Shield , and director of Sword and Shield Shigeru Ohmori. who revealed the first gameplay footage for the new Galar Region where Pokemon Sword and Shield takes place. With an array of locations ranging from industrial cities, forests, and snow-covered town. We also see that the visible Pokemon from Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu have been removed for the random encounters. 

The 3 new starter Pokemon were revealed as the grass monkey Grookey, the water-lizard Sobble, and fire bunny Scorbunny.

It seems that Pokemon Sword and Shield is returning the franchise's roots with random encounters and gym battles instead of the features of the 4 unique battles of Sun and Moon and the visible Pokemon Let's Go Eevee and Pikachu.

Pokemon Sword and Shield is set to launch this year for Nintendo Switch.
