Port Royale Setting Sail To Next Year
News by Daav Daavpuke on Aug 02, 2011
Hey, kids. Are you in that strange, oddly specific niche of enjoying pirate-themed games? If not, then screw you, I am; just shut up for a second and read on anyway. Kalypso has announced to be returning to the Caribbean, no not in Tropico, they’re already making that one. Together with internal studio Gaming Minds, they’re planning on bringing back Port Royale for a third instance.

To hell with this guy! Yarr and more pirate lingo and such.
I played the original, naturally, and it isn’t the best simulation, since Sid Meier already made that one and if you’re not him, then tough luck. But it certainly wasn’t a bad game and implemented a decent strategy and simulation in the high seas of yore. Here’s what to expect from the game:
· Three paths to glory and fame – choose the role of adventurer/pirate, merchant or a combination of both
· Naval battles, coastal city sieges, raids and plunder await the adventurous player, while untold riches, power and glory await the more mercantile-oriented player
· Multiplayer play
· A deep economic simulation engine ensures a realistic trading experience
· Real-world locations will immerse the player in the 17th century Caribbean

Sail the seven seas, or mostly just this one, and discover new prosperity! Avast!
Now the economic system usually offsets me, since they go overboard with it a lot (puns!), but the open-ended career choice is still a winner. Plundering stuff at whim also isn’t bad, savvy? Well, matey, ye can expect Port Royale 3 to drop anchor in Q2 2012 for PC and more. You can find the first playable version at Gamescom this year.
