Portal Reference In Tonight's Simpsons Episode
News by Daavpuke on Mar 12, 2012
While the Simpsons Arcade game has proven to be less than relevant to this current generation, the series itself is trying to stay ‘with it,’ as the kids say. Tonight’s episode started with a reference towards Valve’s finest.
Let's save you one video buffering click and make this a moving picture.
As Mr. Smithers opens up the supply room, he finds two guard drones to see if anyone is there. More so, Mr. Burns’ up close and personal assistant has a way to get rid of this surveillance: his very own cartoony version of a Portal gun. There must be a blue portal open somewhere, because one orange flash later and the sentry machines are history.
Spiderpig / Harry Porker reference within.
This reference follows last week’s Simpsons opening credits, featuring some glorious steampunk apparently directly inspired from A Game of Thrones. Incidentally, the latter series has also been announced as an upcoming MMO (via VG247) at this year’s GDC. From games to TV series to games again; it’s the circle of (basement dwelling) life. This has been top tier gaming journalism at its best.
