Prince of Persia Film Sets Record
News by Logan Smithson on Jun 23, 2010
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was a great game. So much so that it garnered the attention of Disney and director Mike Newell, who decided on making a film adaptation. The movie has so far received mixed reviews from critics, but what video game turned film gets a good reception? The new PoP movie is at least said to be a somewhat enjoyable movie, and definitely above the standards set by films of its kind.
The public is apparently feeling the same way. Since its opening on May 28, the film has brought in $293 million worldwide. That puts it above Lara Croft: Tomb Raider ($274 million) making Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time the highest grossing movie based on a video game of all-time.
Sure, it's pretty successful for a film, but this could be a huge step in opening the door for more game-based films. Now that we've seen what Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time can do, more companies will be willing to take the risk on turning the story of a big name game into a hit in theaters. Oh, and for those of you who enjoyed the Prince's film adaptation, there are already rumors of a sequel floating around.
