Prototype 2 announced for 2012
News by Matt Buckley on Dec 15, 2010
Another debut trailer aired during the 2010 VGAs was one for Activision's upcoming sequel, Prototype 2.
The original game Prototype, released in 2009, followed anti-hero Alex Mercer in action-packed open-world gameplay that sold over 2 million units on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. In addition to the impressive sales numbers, the game was also decently received by critics, with a metascore of 79.
The trailer exposes a wrench thrown in the gears of the original plotline, shifting to a new playable protagonist, Sgt. James Heller, as he sets out to destroy the originally playable Alex Mercer from the first title.

Throwing multiple cars from mid-air. Good times.
The press release announcing Prototype 2 also reveals that the first game in the series, Prototype, is now available as a $29.99 digital download purchase on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace for Xbox 360. There is also a promotion running to help grow the number of Facebook "Likes" for the game: "Fans of the game at www.facebook.com/prototype will automatically be entered into a random drawing to win a token to download the game for FREE."
Prototype 2 is currently slated for release in 2012. For more information on the original release, check out NoobFeed's review of Prototype.
