Rockstar's GTA 6 Tease Turns Out to Be a False Alarm as Take-Two Announcement Sparks New Speculation

A music promotion sparked trailer speculation, but a strangely timed earnings call has now become the biggest clue that Rockstar could be preparing its next major GTA 6 marketing push.

If you were hoping Rockstar Games had quietly teased new Grand Theft Auto 6 news this week, the latest development probably wasn't what you expected. A social media post convinced many fans that something major was on the way, but it ultimately turned out to be unrelated to the game itself.

The speculation started because many GTA fans were already closely watching July 10. Rockstar had spent the previous several days promoting what is expected to be one of the final major updates for GTA Online, centered around the Cops and Crooks-inspired Courthouse Heist update.

What really caught everyone's attention, however, was something Rockstar had reposted a few days earlier.

On July 6, the company retweeted a post from CircoLoco Records that simply featured an eyes emoji alongside the date "Friday, July 10. Because Rockstar owns the popular dance music label through its partnership with CircoLoco, many fans immediately began to wonder whether the mysterious post was hinting at something connected to Grand Theft Auto 6.

The confusion spread quickly across social media. If you only saw Rockstar's repost appear in your feed, it was easy to assume the company was teasing one of its announcements. Many people assumed the original post was created by Rockstar, leading to widespread speculation that a new trailer, blog post, screenshots, or another major GTA announcement might arrive on July 10.

As it turns out, that excitement was misplaced. Rockstar eventually reposted CircoLoco Records once again to promote the release of a new song titled Sun Soaked Silver Lines, featuring Emily Warren. The announcement had nothing to do with Grand Theft Auto 6 and was simply another example of Rockstar using its social media platforms to support one of its partner projects.

That doesn't necessarily mean the music is completely unrelated to Rockstar's games. Since CircoLoco Records has worked closely with Rockstar for years, it's entirely possible that some of its music could eventually appear on one of Grand Theft Auto 6's in-game radio stations

While that rumor came to an end fairly quickly, another development has generated even more attention because it involves Take-Two Interactive directly. Interestingly, it also lines up with previous discussions surrounding Rockstar's expected marketing timeline for Grand Theft Auto 6, making the situation much harder to dismiss as simple coincidence.

July has already been viewed as an important month for Rockstar.

The Courthouse Heist update launches on July 14, and once that release is complete, many fans expect the company to focus more on promoting Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar will likely continue supporting Red Dead Online with its usual monthly updates, but those announcements are unlikely to dominate the company's marketing schedule going forward.

That expectation also fits comments previously made by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who described this summer as being a significant period for Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing. So far, however, that campaign has remained relatively limited.

Rockstar hasn't delivered what many players would consider a major marketing push, aside from social media advertisements, promotional images, screenshots, and the official announcement that pre-orders had opened.

There’s been so much emphasis on summer promotion that many fans believe there is so much more to come. One trailer, a handful of screenshots, and several advertisements seem inadequate to justify describing the campaign as a major summer rollout. As a result, expectations remain high that Rockstar is preparing another substantial reveal before long.

That brings the focus to Take-Two Interactive's latest announcement. The publisher has officially confirmed that it will report its first-quarter fiscal year 2027 financial results on Friday, August 7. While quarterly earnings calls are routine events for publicly traded companies, several details surrounding this particular meeting have immediately stood out.

The first oddity is with the timing. Previous expectations pointed to the earnings call happening on August 6, but the official date was pushed to the next day. On its own, that change might not seem especially important, but several other scheduling decisions have made this earnings call look noticeably different from previous ones.

Perhaps the most significant surprise is the start time.

Instead of beginning in the late afternoon, as Take-Two's earnings calls typically do, this presentation is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time. That happens to be almost identical to Rockstar's preferred window for releasing trailers, blog posts, weekly updates, and other major announcements.

If you regularly follow Rockstar's marketing schedule, you've probably noticed that many of its biggest announcements arrive between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. Eastern. New GTA Online updates, promo blogs, and Red Dead news often appear online during those morning hours. That pattern has naturally brought focus to the decision to hold such an important investor presentation during Rockstar’s normal posting window.

Another major change is that Take-Two will now hold the earnings call before the U.S. stock market opens. Take-Two has traditionally held these meetings after the markets close for the day, giving investors time to process any big news before trading resumes. Any major news could affect trading activity the same morning if the company holds the presentation before the markets open.

The choice of weekday is another unusual detail. Take-Two has typically scheduled these presentations for Tuesday or Thursday, so a Friday earnings call is somewhat unusual. None of these scheduling changes confirm that something major is coming, but together they have certainly fueled speculation that Rockstar could have larger plans surrounding the event.

Regardless of whether another trailer arrives beforehand, the earnings call itself is expected to include fresh information about Grand Theft Auto 6. For the first time, Take-Two will likely discuss official pre-order performance, giving investors and fans a much clearer picture of how well the game has performed since reservations became available.

That means you could finally hear concrete numbers rather than estimates or industry speculation.

Executives may reveal how many copies were pre-ordered during the opening hours, how sales progressed during the first week, and whether the game has already broken internal company records. Considering the enormous anticipation surrounding GTA 6, many analysts expect those figures to be exceptionally strong.

The presentation may also give more attention to marketing plans. Rockstar has already demonstrated that it prefers spacing out its promotional material rather than releasing everything at once, making the weeks leading up to the August earnings call a logical opportunity for another marketing push.

That next reveal doesn't necessarily have to be Trailer 3. Rockstar could instead release another collection of screenshots, publish a detailed gameplay breakdown, introduce specific mechanics through a developer blog, or reveal additional information about the game's world and characters.

If fresh promotional material does drop right before the earnings call, it would also give the company's executives some impressive engagement stats to boast about. Rockstar always gets loads of attention when they release new GTA content, with often hundreds of millions of views happening within days.

That possibility has only become more compelling because Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to be following a slightly different promotional timeline than Rockstar's previous releases.

Earlier comparisons with Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 suggested that new trailers or major announcements might have already appeared by now. Since that hasn't happened, many fans believe the next significant reveal cannot be too far away.

What Rockstar plans to show is still unclear. The company has remained characteristically quiet despite growing anticipation, leaving fans searching for clues in every announcement and schedule change. As July rolls on, expectations continue to rise whether the next reveal comes via another trailer, new gameplay footage, or something else entirely.

For now, Rockstar’s social media activity harevealed that not all mysterious-looking posts directly relateed to Grand Theft Auto 6. Meanwhile, Take-Two's bizarrely timed earnings call has given rise to an entirely different mystery, one that appears much more significant than a basic music promo.
