Rumor: Metroid Prime Switch Edition Development Finished
Nintendo may re-release the acclaimed Metroid Prime trilogy
News by Grayshadow on Jul 18, 2021
Metroid Prime is often regarded as one of the best games ever made. Bringing Samus Aran to first-person the first game has a troubled development but would put Retro Studios on the map. Since its release, the trilogy has been difficult to play, with gamers either trying to obtain an original Gamecube copy or sell out hundreds for the Wii trilogy. It seems that Nintendo is finally re-releasing the games for Switch.
According to the Giant Bomb show GrubbSnax VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb stated that Nintendo has finished the game's development and is just holding off releasing the game.
“I think that game is sitting in their pocket for whenever Nintendo decides it’s the right time, and Nintendo’s done this a lot recently so it’s not unusual, it’s not a sign of some bad thing happening, it’s not a sign of a lack of faith in Metroid… Nintendo can afford and that’s how they’re treating it.”
This would be the ideal time as Metroid Dread is one of the most anticipated games of this year. This coupled with fans yearning for Metroid Prime 4 and Nintendo's recent success re-releasing older titles such as the recent Skyward Sword HD. Given that Nintendo has shown they can replicate the aiming controls of the Wii using Switch hardware that limitation is not a problem as shown with Skyward Sword HD and Super Mario Galaxy.
Considering that Nintendo has a notorious history of not making their games easy to access this would be best for those wishing to revisit or play this incredible franchise for the first time. Publishers have been finding large success re-releasing older games with HD and technical updates so why not Metroid Prime?
