The iconic blue hedgehog has been around for quite some time and it is arguably one of the most recognizable characters in all of gaming. Over the years, he's rightfully earned himself a cult following, said following will be glad to know that both Team Sonic and Sega have confirmed that the spiked speedster’s next venture, Sonic Superstars, runs at 60 FPS on the Nintendo Switch.

Sonic Superstars is a bit of a change of pace from what we've seen with recent Sonic the Hedgehog games. The game will be going back to the character’s roots and is going to be a 2D platformer, and will be arriving on all modern platforms from Consoles to PC. There were some concerns about the Nintendo Switch's age and hardware, especially with the issues surrounding games such as Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

Sonic Superstars isn't the first 2D Sonic game on the Nintendo Switch, as Sonic Mania was ported over to the hybrid console. The port was praised highly by fans as the game ran at an incredibly smooth 60 FPS. It is something of a rarity to see a Nintendo Switch port go so successfully, as it has become somewhat a recurring pattern to see Nintendo Switch ports suffer from heavy graphical downgrades or severe performance issues. The main reason for this is due to the Switch's aging hardware, which is starting to cause problems with heavier releases. There are rumors of a sequel console being in the works but we still need confirmation.

Despite the concerns about the Nintendo Switch's hardware, it would seem that the upcoming Sonic Superstars will not be joining the ranks of past troubled releases and will instead be running smoothly at 60 FPS. This is according to an interview that was held between ‘Denfaminicogamer’ and two of Sonic Superstars’ developers, Lizuka and Naoto Oshima. In this interview, Naoto Oshima stated that he was excited for the release of this Sonic game in particular. The developer specifically noted that across numerous platforms, the game will successfully run at 60FPS, which includes the Nintendo Switch.

Naoto Oshima also said that he hopes that older fans will have some nostalgia when seeing the older characters but he also hopes that new players will enjoy the sense of speed found in Sonic Superstars. It only makes sense that there would be so much hype surrounding Sonic Superstars, with the game returning to its roots and the promise of 60FPS across multiple platforms, this definitely seems like a game for both Sonic fans and newcomers.
