Metroid Prime is often considered one of the greatest games ever made and the fourth installment is highly anticipated by gamers. However, the original game almost had the option to unlock the classic Super Metroid until Nintendo said no.
As reported on IGN and sourced from Kiwi Talkz Podcast, David Kirsch who worked on Metroid Prime stated that the developer intended to put it in the game as an unlock to share his love for the game.
"I got assigned to Metroid, and I'm like, well I should probably play this Super Metroid since we're making kind of a sequel to it," Zoid said. "Holy crap, I missed [out on] this game! This game's incredible. I played through it twice in like three days, I just loved it."
Nintendo rejected the idea because the emulator it ran on wasn't approved so instead the original Metroid was made unlockable. This was made possible by beating Metroid Fusion on the GBA then using a link cable for the Game Boy Advance to connect it to the Gamecube running Metroid Prime to play it.
