Echtra Games has pivoted Torchlight Frontiers to a traditional, linear entry in the series.

Developer Echtra Games has announced that Torchlight Frontiers, the free-to-play shared world ARPG, is now Torchlight III. As its name suggests, the entry sheds its shared world element and horizontal progression in favor of a story-driven, linear approach, similar to previous Torchlight titles.

Torchlight III takes place centuries after the events of Torchlight II and features a plethora of gear for players to unlock from slaying monsters and taking on targeted contracts that unlock elite enemies. A new addition to the series are forts, which players can build and decorate, allowing them to upgrade gear and invite friends over.

Torchlight III will be playable both online and offline and will see the return of pets, which have been a staple of the series since its first title. Featuring four playable classes, the game is due to release on PC this Summer, and will be available on Steam. The console version will launch "shortly after". You can see it in action in its reveal trailer.
