Publisher PQube has announced the distribution of another game today, called Tormented Souls. Three guesses as to what genre this game is, before the break. Here's an excerpt:
Tormented Souls sets out to draw inspiration from classic Survival Horror. From Resident Evil and Silent Hill, to Alone in the Dark - Tormented Souls is a modern take on the fixed-perspective adventure.
At this point, any game with that title has a fifty-fifty chance to either be a Resident Evil game or the standard Steam dark hallway simulator. Still, as Resident Evil has resurged in popularity, it can never hurt to have another game that draws heavily from that franchise. Everything from solving spooky puzzles, to roaming through a repurposed manor are taken from the classic Capcom property. Oh, the manor is now a hospital, because that's also a common trope. Avid fans will even notice the typewriter font. If anything, Tormented Souls doesn't hide its intentions. One distinct gameplay system involves mirrors that can alter reality, to shape the story that way.
Tormented Souls is being produced by Dual Effect Games and Abstract Digital Works. The former is the project of twin brothers. These houses are Chilean studios and the game can even count on some support from a Chilean fund. Chile has a small, dedicated game development scene. For instance, ACE Team is from that country and has produced cult hits like Zeno Clash and Abyss Odyssey. Small studios like these can periodically create original spins on known quantities. Indonesian studio, Digital Happiness, has made a successful horror series of its own with DreadOut.
There is no targeted date for Tormented Souls as of yet, but the horror game is slated for 2021. Confirmed platforms right now are PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
