Unreal Engine to Support Project Natal
News by David on Oct 10, 2009
When Project Natal was announced at E3 back in June, there was a lot of hype surrounding it. There were also recent rumors with how Natal might support future Xbox 360 titles, like Fable III and Halo: Reach. Now Microsoft’s motion control project is getting major support from its closest friends.
Epic Games, the development company responsible for making blockbuster hits Unreal Tournament and Gears of War, has announced that they will be fully on board for Project Natal, and they would be messing around with the camera / motion-sensing technology Microsoft has described, the “future of gaming,” or something along those lines. Mark Rein, Epic Games’ VP, has recently told XOM UK that the Unreal Engine will be supporting the development of Project Natal. Rein has also stated that it is the “unofficial engine of Natal,” and considers his company the “economic engine of Natal.”
But that doesn’t mean Epic Games is 100% sure of this. They have yet to go ahead with the plan to make its own games using Project Natal. For now, Rein just wants his development team to come take a look at it, and stated their games will have some Natal support, if not entirely. It is also rumored that Project Natal might launch with new Xbox 360 consoles in the future, when it is complete. Microsoft expects this event to take place sometime in 2010.
