Video Game Decline? Bah!

The video games industry isn’t going through the best of times at the moment, due to various recessions, and companies aren’t earning comfortable revenue. This is a somewhat bittersweet problem though, because while consumers aren’t spending their hard-earned cash on new releases, they are picking up a bargain or two in the used game section.

So much so that sales of used games have risen by a whopping 42 percent when compared to the last six months. Even more staggering when you consider that time period sweeps across the holiday season, a hot pocket for the industry.

A recent Nielsen survey of gamers has also found that gamers are spending more time with their purchases than ever before, in 2009 the average gamer is playing 1-2 hours per week more compared to that of recent years. If these numbers keep climbing then video games will be sure to leave DVD’s and cinema-going in the distance.
