Voidling Bound Brings a Skylanders Twist to Sci-Fi Action

Former Skylanders devs reveal a new monster-taming shooter mixing Spore, Pokémon, and Warframe.

A brand-new IP is coming out soon, and it will combine old-school monster collecting with fast-paced sci-fi action. Voidling Bound was developed by people who used to work on Skylanders. It was influenced by old games like Spore and Pokémon, and it features a third-person action shooter style reminiscent of Warframe.

It's a bold mix, but it seems like it could make its own place in the world of games. You don't just fight enemies in Voidling Bound; you become a "space wrangler" and form bonds with strange beings called voidlings. In a world on the edge, where a terrible parasite has harmed lush planets and threatens all life, these alien friends are essential for survival.

The only way for humanity to survive is to form neural bonds with voidlings, help them reach their full potential, and fight back against the corruption that is spreading. Voidling Bound is different from other monster-taming games because it puts you in control of your creatures instead of just controlling them.

In this third-person shooter full of action, you have full control over your voidling. For that, you have to shoot, smash, blast, and fight your way through waves of alien enemies. People are already interested in the decision to play in third-person instead of first-person, as it allows you to see how your voidling changes over time and evolves.

One thing that really makes it interesting is the way it evolves in branches. Each voidling can be shaped in different ways, which changes not only its elemental alignment but also how it plays, what skills it has, and even how it looks. Because mutated perks give each creature its own powers, no two voidlings will ever play the same.

Getting more levels gives the game more meaning. You can allocate points to things like strength, energy, recovery, essence, and agility. Do you want a machine that is powerful and tough? You can build one. Do you want a glass pistol that is good for offense and speed? That's one more option.

The method is a blend of RPG-style character growth and producing monsters in a more traditional way. It lets players try different things and make a voidling that works best for the way they like to fight. If leveling up and evolving weren't enough, Voidling Bound also has a lot of monster-taming mechanics.

Finding new voidlings can be done by saving and hatching eggs from places where they are infected. Lucky hatches may even give birth to unique natures, and yes, you can breed voidlings to make them stronger by combining traits. There are a lot of similarities between this concept and Pokémon, but the sci-fi theme makes it darker.

You can even collect body parts, colors, and genetic traits to make your own models, which is even more customizable. The main idea is that you are making unique voidlings by combining the best parts and changes of everything you find. It's an interesting idea that combines creativity with progress, and it makes you want to give the game another chance to see what you can hatch or build next.

Different people have different thoughts on how the voidlings should be built. Some players have said it looks like Furbies, the soft robot toys from the late 1990s. This might not be a good thing for everyone. Still, their strange look might end up being part of their charm, especially if the ways you can change them make them unique enough.

The world itself is made by hand, and players will explore planets that are full of corruption and different kinds of enemies. Each planet is made to present its own unique obstacles, forcing you to change your voidlings and strategies. Boss fights against scary monsters that will test your skills and the body you've worked so hard to get.

Even though it's still very early, the first gameplay video looks good. The combat looks a little rough, but since the game won't come out until 2026, the creators have a lot of time to make it better. This is not a safe sequel or remake; it's a brand-new IP that aims to mix different styles. That's what makes it stand out.

What a great mix of monster handling, evolution, and third-person sci-fi action Voidling Bound looks like it will be. For people who liked Skylanders, it might feel like the next step, and people who liked Pokémon or Spore might get hooked on the creature creation and evolution systems. The game tries to do a lot at once, with fast-paced battles, branching growth, and breeding systems. But that might be what makes it unique.

It's still early, but if the people making this game follow to their intentions, it might be one of the most original action-adventure games of 2026. This is one to keep an eye on if you like collecting monsters and sci-fi guns.
