Developer inXile entertainment has released the first developer diary for upcoming post-apocalyptic cRPG Wasteland 3, discussing character creation, customization and combat. Lead Designer David Rogers revealed that the title will offer "a ton of granular control over every aspect of your character", one such element beign the Quirks system.
When creating your Wasteland 3 character, you'll be able to select from a series of Quirks which offer powerful bonuses while also being tied to significant penalties. Character stats, which govern what characters excel at, will benefit from clear descriptions that tell players everything they need to know about how they impact gameplay, in an effort to avoid late game situations where players regret past choices.
Ammo will be extremely rare in Wasteland 3, acting as a "money sink for your party". Diversifying the ammo types your party uses will be vital in combat, as it'll ensure members won't drain a single ammo pool and run out in critical situations like boss fights.
Character duos are a new addition that will allow newer players to hit the ground running when they start Wasteland 3. They are pairs of pre-made characters that, aside from a well-defined set of skills, bring distinct personalities to the mix. You can check out the entire first dev diary for yourself as it's chock-full of interesting details.
Wasteland 3 is set to launch on PC, Xbox One and PS4 on August 28th.
