Now a third-person squad-based shooter

2K’s long dormant XCOM shooter has finally come out hiding. The game, now titled The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, has been refitted as third-person squad-based shooter (as previous reports indicated). to be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on August 20 in North America, the 23 in Europe.

Set in 1962 (the height of the Cold War), The Bureau details the beginnings of the XCOM project as the world faces its first encounter with alien forces. Players are put in control of special agent William Carter, a sort of lone wolf type charged with commanding a team of soldiers. The 2K Marine (known for their work on BioShock 2) developed game will focus heavily on tactical combat, the series’ hallmark “permadeath” in effect here, meaning your teammates can – and probably will – die permanently if you’re not careful.
The game is currently slated to be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on August 20 in North America, and the 23 in Europe.
