Playtonic and publisher Team17 confirmed that Yooka-Laylee has gone gold. This means that the game has finished development and is ready for production.
The game was marketed at the spiritual successor to Banjo-Koozie and was placed on Kickstarter on May 1st, 2015. It reached it's goal within minutes and earning £2,090,104. Since then Playtonic has kept funders and gamers up-to-date with the game's progress including a sandbox version of the game, called Toybox, to play on July 28th, 2016 for backers of the game.
Playtonic stated on an official blog reguarding the game's gold status:
“We couldn’t have reached this moment without the incredible support of our backers, fans, family and friends across the games industry. Thanks again for your unwavering enthusiasm for our studio. We hope you enjoy Yooka-Laylee when it releases on April 11!”
After a multitude of failed or unfulfilling Kickstarter projects, it'll be interesting to see how Yooka-Laylee performs after releasing.
Yooka-Laylee will release on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC, Linux, and macOS. The Wii U version has been canceled.
