Best 4K Mini-LED Gaming Monitor Under $500: KTC M27P6 Review

KTC M27P6 is a 27-inch 4K 160Hz gaming monitor that has a special dual-mode capability that enables you switch to 1080p 320Hz for super-smooth gaming. It has a bright IPS display with miniLED technology and 1,152 local dimming zones, which makes for a great combination of picture quality and speed.

At about $470, it offers great value for gamers who want a flexible display with high-end functionality without spending a lot of money.

Pixel Density and Visual Sharpness

The KTC M27P6 has a 4K resolution on a 27-inch panel, which makes it stand out when it comes to pixel density. It has 8.3 million pixels, which gives it a crisp 163 pixels per inch (PPI). Everything looks incredibly crisp, noticeably sharper than 1440p monitors of the same size.

For those who value clarity and detail, 4K at this size is ideal—provided the GPU has enough power to drive it. Thanks to modern upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR 4, 4K gaming has become much more accessible.

Switching to the dual-mode 1080p resolution at 320Hz does reduce sharpness, as text and UI elements appear blurrier compared to native 1080p panels. However, this mode is meant for competitive gaming, and the incredible smoothness of 320Hz more than compensates. 

Fast-paced titles like Counter-Strike 2 feel ultra-responsive, and aiming precision noticeably improves. The flexibility to switch between sharp visuals and competitive fluidity makes this monitor a standout choice.

Color Accuracy and Vibrancy

Using a calibration tool, the color gamut measurements were 99.3% sRGB, 89.1% AdobeRGB, and 95% DCI-P3. This means the M27P6 is suitable for light content creation tasks such as photo or video editing after calibration. 

Out of the box, the colors are overly saturated, but they can be easily adjusted in the on-screen display (OSD). The sRGB mode offers more accurate color representation.

In gaming, the extra vibrancy adds visual punch. Games like Dying Light looked noticeably more vivid compared to calibrated displays, enhancing immersion. The default option could be better for people who like games with a little more color.

Brightness and HDR Performance

The M27P6 gets as bright as 445nits in SDR mode, which is bright enough for most places. But it does well in HDR, with a peak brightness of 1400 nits, which fully uses the HDR1400 certification.

The HDR experience is exceptional, especially when combined with its 1,152 local dimming zones. Highlights appear brilliant while dark areas retain depth, providing an OLED-like feel in certain scenes.

At its lowest, the brightness drops to 33nits, making it comfortable for late-night use. Overall, the brightness range makes it highly adaptable, from dimly lit rooms to bright daylight setups.

Contrast and Local Dimming

The KTC M27P6 has a big advantage in contrast because it uses MiniLED technology. It has a contrast ratio of 6500:1, which is far higher than the 1000:1 ratio that is common on conventional IPS panels. Blacks look darker, and bright things show out more clearly. Local dimming makes gloomy scenes look better by making them look more lively and immersive.

In SDR gaming, enabling local dimming elevates the experience by improving black levels and overall depth. However, for desktop tasks or web browsing, it's often better to turn local dimming off for more consistent brightness. 

While the monitor offers an automatic HDR mode, SDR gaming requires manual toggling, which can be slightly inconvenient.

Backlight Bleed

Backlight bleed is practically nonexistent when local dimming is enabled, resulting in pure, uniform blacks. With local dimming off, minimal backlight bleed appears, barely noticeable and far from problematic. The panel quality is excellent in this regard.

Response Times and Motion Performance

The Nvidia LDAT sensor was used to measure response times at different refresh rates and overdrive levels. The dynamic overdrive option gives the optimum performance at 4K resolution by balancing response times and keeping overshoot to a minimum. At 160Hz, average response times stay below the 6.25ms threshold, which keeps motion clarity smooth.

At 1080p, dynamic overdrive once again provides the best results, offering 2.5–2.6ms gray-to-gray response times at 320Hz and 240Hz. Motion blur is nearly nonexistent, and overshoot remains minimal except slightly at 240Hz. 

For locked 240fps gameplay, the standard overdrive mode performs better with 0% overshoot. Overall, motion handling is excellent, and KTC has done a fantastic job with overdrive tuning.

On-Screen Display and Features

The OSD is controlled by a rear joystick, making navigation straightforward and intuitive. While the dual-mode toggle isn't assigned as a quick shortcut by default, it's only a few clicks away. Adaptive sync is supported for both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync compatibility, ensuring tear-free gameplay.

Port selection is generous, including two HDMI 2.1 ports, two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, a USB-C port with 65W power delivery, a headphone jack, and a DC power connector. Additionally, there are two USB 3.0 ports and a built-in KVM switch, adding versatility for multi-device setups.

Build Quality and Design

The KTC M27P6 feels well-built and premium. The stand offers full ergonomic adjustments, including height, tilt, swivel, and pivot. It also supports VESA 100x100 mounting. The stand has a minor wobble but nothing significant. 

Design-wise, the monitor looks sleek and modern, with subtle RGB lighting on the rear to enhance aesthetics.

Gaming and Overall Experience

The M27P6 is amazing for gaming, no matter if you're playing in 1080p or 4K. AAA games look great in 4K, with dazzling HDR highlights and rich contrast. The 1080p 320Hz option is great for competitive gaming since it makes everything feel smooth, which offers you a big advantage in games that need quick reactions.

While it can't match OLED panels in absolute black levels, miniLED delivers an impressive HDR experience with deep contrast and bright highlights. Games like Alan Wake 2 look particularly immersive with this panel. At 27in, 4K resolution provides visibly sharper detail than 1440p, and with DLSS4 or FSR4 upscaling, performance remains strong without sacrificing image quality.

Final Thoughts

The KTC M27P6 is a great gaming monitor since it has a high resolution, fast refresh rates, and great HDR performance.
