ARK: Survival Ascended Guide | How To Tame Veilwyn

The Veilwyn is a unique companion creature found in the snow biome of ARK: Survival Ascended. With its array of support abilities and ease of taming, it serves as an incredibly useful ally for any survivor.

This guide will walk you through where to find the Veilwyn, how to tame it, and how to utilize its powerful buffs and special features in both exploration and combat.

Finding and Taming Veilwyn

Veilwyns are located in snowy regions, particularly in hard snow zones. Several of them can be spotted there. Once one is located, approach it quietly.

Taming is done passively, requiring you to sneak up behind it while wearing the Ghillie Armor.

A single interaction is all it takes to claim it as your own. This makes Veilwyn one of the easiest creatures to tame in the game.

Companion Mode and Buffs

Once tamed, the Veilwyn acts as a companion rather than a standard mountable creature. It cannot wear saddles, including those from similar companions like the Doggo.

But when in Companion Mode, it gives a lot of benefits, including two buffs that last a long time: the Moral Support Buff and the Veilwyn Companion Buff. These buffs lower the damage that hits you and make it easier to stay alive.

Even when teleporting or dying, the Veilwyn will follow and reappear beside its owner, thanks to its companion status.

Whistle Commands and Abilities

The Veilwyn features unique whistle-based commands such as Sit and Call Friends. Using the Call Friends function, the Veilwyn can duplicate itself temporarily—a unique and wild ability that sets it apart from other companions.

Multiple support buffs can be activated through command interactions. Moral Support Speed Buff grants a movement speed increase.

Offensive Buff boosts the damage you deal. A defensive buff enhances your creature’s resistance to incoming damage.

Tundra Swiftness increases speed significantly for a short time. Tundra Power empowers your next melee attack to deal extra damage. Tundra Endurance serves as a healing ability, restoring health to you and, occasionally, to your mounted creature.

When tested, damage reduction effects also apply to the creature you are riding. For example, with the Moral Support Buff active, a Rex took reduced damage, and the offensive buff caused its attack damage to increase from 279 to 306. The healing effect is minimal and short-lived but does work while mounted.

Breeding and Mutation

Veilwyns are mammals and can be bred. They reproduce through gestation, and the offspring can even mutate. For example, a mutation may result in color changes, such as a greenback not present in either parent. These adorable creatures offer not just utility but also aesthetic appeal.
