The Planetologist Skill Line cannot be chosen at character creation and must be unlocked through a sequence of quests. It offers powerful PvE benefits, including improved harvesting yields and enhanced movement abilities.
This guide presents each quest in the order of completion, specifying locations, objectives, and rewards.
Quest 1 – Minimic Film Recovery
The first quest, Minimic Film Recovery, is available at the Trade Outpost in the South Hagga Basin. Accept Assistance Needed from Derek at Imperial Testing Station 2 (referred to as TS2).
Enter the testing facility below Derek, proceed to the bookcase marked by the quest marker, and retrieve the Minimic Film. Return to Derek to complete the quest, unlocking the Planetologist Skill Line at level one.
Quest 2 – Buried Archives
Once the Planetologist Skill Line is active, travel to West Vermillius Gap and locate the testing station entrance within the basin.
Accept Buried Archives from Derek at TS2, descend into the underground facility, and choose either the left pathway through the testing chambers or the right-looping combat area with two opposing factions.
Both routes lead to the required Minimic Film. Deliver the film to Derek to reach level two in the Planetologist Skill Line.
Quest 3 – Adhering to Hierarchy
Return to TS2 and collect Adhering to Hierarchy from Derek. Travel to Araen—either by purchasing an Ornithopter flight at the Trade Post for 2500 credits or by utilizing an existing Ornithopter—and proceed upstairs to the local bar to meet Cyprien.
Interaction with this NPC concludes immediately, revealing tensions between Derek and Cyprien. Report back to Derek at TS2 to complete the quest; no new skill level is unlocked.
Quest 4 – Science Unlocked
Acquire Science Unlocked at Testing Station 76. Enter the facility and descend the stairs to discover Derek imprisoned in a cage beside a glowing bar. Speak with Derek and retrieve the two keys located down the steps.
Navigate the facility loop to collect the Minimic Film, then return to free Derek. Completing this quest grants level three in the Planetologist Skill Line and unlocks additional passive points for increased resource yields.
Quest 5 – The Search for Kynes
Pick up The Search for Kynes from Derek at TS2. Proceed to Arrakeen and speak with Thufir, who directs the player toward the Western Shield Wall.
Within the canyon, locate and obtain the required document. Return to Derek at TS2 to conclude the quest. This entry does not grant a new skill level but advances the storyline.
Quest 6 – A Reasonable Routine
Obtain A Reasonable Routine at Testing Station 29. Derek awaits at the facility entrance. Clear through multiple rooms to reach the loot chamber, recover the hidden bracelet from the concealed door, and return to Derek at TS2. Completion unlocks the Spice Surveyor capstone skill.
Quest 7 – Clues from the Past
Visit Testing Station 71 in O'odham for Clues from the Past. Enter the facility, collect two ID Bands from designated chambers, and clear the central sacrificial room to retrieve Kynes' Research and the Minimic Film from a bookshelf. Deliver all items to Derek at TS2 to complete the quest.
Quest 8 – The Planetologist Report
Get information about the deception from Cyprien in Arrakeen, then go back to TS2. Get rid of the ambush by killing the shooters and enemy teams that were set up near where Derek usually is.
Get the task report and then leave to give it to Derek at TS2. This completes the quest without giving you any extra skills.
Quest 9 – The Final Piece
At O'odham's testing station is the last quest, called "The Final Piece." Inside, get the Recording from Kynes in the previous room and give it to Derek at TS2. Get the Stillsuit Garment and the last Planetologist end skill when the task is finished.
In the End…
After completing all nine quests, the Planetologist Skill Line reaches its full potential, providing enhanced harvesting efficiency, superior mobility, and valuable capstone abilities.
Early completion of the Planetologist quests is recommended to benefit from passive bonuses during exploration and resource gathering.
