The grappling hook is required for completing a lot of the missions in Dying Light: The Beast, and it’s not something you can get by buying it from traders.

The grappling hook will unlock naturally as the story progresses; from the main storyline at the central town hub under the sheriff's guidance, after you complete a bunch of quests, the question will lead you to a mission called “Some Like It Dark.”

Once you’re done completing this quest, the grappling hook is awarded to you automatically.

Forgetting your hands in the building gives you new ways for moving through the environment, allowing you to get access and reach areas that were previously very difficult or impossible, greatly increasing the rate at which you explore and move through areas.
