Caligo is an Ice Dragon. You can defeat this boss after determining its attack pattern and positioning tactics. It all comes down to taking advantage of the Dragon's Elemental weakness and making the most of its expansive damage windows by constantly changing its varied moves.
Focus on Weakness
Caligo is vulnerable to fire. Elden Ring Nightreign. Sparkling lights on Caligo's body will be shown when it is affected by fire, a debuff that decreases Caligo's attack and defense stats.
This debuff is highly effective due to Caligo's extremely high health pool. Bleed effects are very efficient against this boss because of the huge health bar, and it is a good damage-over-time approach.
Attack Patterns during the Initial Phase
Caligo has a wide ice-breath attack, where you must run out of the attack zone or go to a safe position before the attack. The dragon also has normal ice breath and a double wing channel that shoots ice forward.
You can dodge the attacks by rolling sideways and have bigger animation windows with opportunities to deal constant damage.
Tail whip and slam assaults lunge forward directly at you, which can be avoided by side-to-side rolling in Elden Ring Nightreign. If you linger under Caligo for a long time, it will initiate an ice-breath attack on the ground under you, forcing you to move.
One of the most dangerous attacks of Caligo is a flying drive-by. With this attack, the dragon concentrates a lot of Ice Shards and fires them like a machine gun while passing overhead.
Caligo will perform two air passes, then jump and perform the same attack on the ground. This attack has a long range, so you must run sideways and roll at the end to avoid getting damaged.
Caligo has two distinct special attacks based on fog. You'll hear ice clinking to locate the dragon in its first form. If you find Caligo, it will cast a massive ice attack above. You can either remain under the dragon directly for cover or outrun the attack by running away from it.
The second is a wind-suction-fog attack. The wind is sucked towards Caligo's location. You should feel the direction of the wind suction, move in that direction, and take cover behind a pillar to evade the massive ice blast that ensues.
Later Phase Strategies
In Caligo's later phase in Elden Ring Nightreign, the dragon adds more complexity by sweeping forward and throwing ice bombs around it. The bombs do a little area of effect explosion, as Caligo also does a tail slam attack in a line shape. Overall, this generates battlefield control, where proper spacing and positioning must be observed to prevent damage from two sources.
You also must avoid standing on ice left behind by all sorts of attacks. The battle will be extended because of Caligo's enormous pool of health, but the dragon also has many windows of damage that can be utilized effectively.
