Grounded 2 Guide | How to Tame Orb Weaver Spider
Here's a guide on how to tame the Orb Weaver Spider in Grounded 2.
Game Guide by Ragib Rawnak on Aug 05, 2025
The Orb Weaver is one of the most useful companions in Grounded 2, offering superior mobility and combat capabilities compared to standard Ant companions in Grounded 2.
From the requirements for story progression to the last stage of taming, this guide is a step-by-step process of getting, hatching, and caring for your Orb Weaver companion.

Conditions for Story Development
Before you can begin the Orb Weaver hatching process, you must complete the primary story campaign up to a specific milestone.
Complete every quest in the main plot until you arrive at the Statue location. This is the last of the story content available in the current early access version.
This story section ends in a boss battle at the Statue.
Once this boss has been killed, find and collect the Disk that is located at the very top of the Statue structure.
The Orb Weaver hatching technology cannot be unlocked without this Disk. With the Disk in your inventory, head back to your base in Grounded 2.
When you approach the Disk with the item in hand, it will automatically insert itself into the proper console. You will have access to new research options at the Science Shop after this process is finished.
Opening the Orb Weaver Buggy
Navigate to the Science Shop and purchase the Orb Weaver Buggy research. This unlocks the ability to hatch Orb Weaver eggs at your Hatchery.
The research also provides access to Spider Nest construction, which proves helpful for companion management.
Required Materials for Hatching
To successfully hatch an Orb Weaver, you need some specific materials. Blueberry Leather can be obtained by visiting the Ice Cream Cart area, where Blueberry plants grow naturally.
Harvest these Blueberries by knocking down the plants in Grounded 2.
Take the collected Blueberries to the Ranger Station and research them to unlock Blueberry Leather as a craftable resource.
Then, using the proper crafting station, you can turn chunks of Blueberries into leather in Grounded 2.
By defeating Red Ants in battle, one can obtain Red Ant Mandibles. When defeated, these enemies, which are frequently encountered in the game world, drop Mandibles.
Using an Omni Hammer on acorns scattered throughout the environment will yield acorn shells with ease.
When the acorns break apart, shells will be created as craft materials.
The Orb Weaver Egg is the most challenging part to obtain and requires careful planning and execution.

Finding the Orb Weaver's Egg
The Orb Weaver Egg can be found in a particular location near the snack bar. Go to the front corner of the Snack Bar to find a picnic table in the Grass Games area.
Next to a streetlight, locate a Dark Rock formation. This street light serves as a noticeable landmark for drivers.
Depending on when you visit, the wolf spider that guards the egg location may be either active or sleeping.
Take caution when approaching this area because the Wolf Spider could seriously threaten you if you are unprepared. You can try to get past the sleeping Wolf Spider to get to the egg.
Avoid making noise that could wake the creature by moving slowly in Grounded 2.
After you've found the Orb Weaver Egg, swiftly gather it and move away from danger. Be ready to leave as soon as you encounter the Wolf Spider, as it will likely become hostile if disturbed.

Hatching Process
Return to your base with all required materials: Blueberry Leather, Red Ant Mandibles, Acorn Shells, and the Orb Weaver Egg.
Ensure you are carrying all materials in your inventory before proceeding to the Hatchery.
At the Hatchery, you will see the Orb Weaver Buggy option available for use.
Press the drop key (default R key) while holding the Orb Weaver Egg to place it on the ground, then pick it up again to ensure proper handling.
Approach the Hatchery while holding the egg and select the use option in Grounded 2.
Sometimes there are bugs in the interface that make it impossible to interact appropriately. Try clicking on different parts of the Hatchery interface before trying to use the incubation option again if you run into problems.
When the option to incubate becomes available, choose it. It takes precisely twenty-four in-game hours to finish the incubation process. You can't use the Hatchery for anything else during this time, so make plans appropriately.
Managing Existing Companions
If you already have an Ant companion following you, you must address this before hatching the Orb Weaver.
The game only allows one active companion at a time, so your existing Ant must be stored or eliminated before the new companion can be activated.
Build an Ant Nest using the third tab in your construction menu. The Ant Nest requires Clover Leaves, Crude Rope, and Acorn Shells. Crude Rope is crafted from Plant Fiber, which can be gathered from various Plants throughout the environment.
Weed Stems are needed for nest construction and can be obtained from red plants found near the Ranger Station and Snack Bar areas.
These plants require a level two Omni Tool Axe to harvest. If you only have a level one axe, search for Dandelions instead, which can be found south of the Snack Bar area and are easier to spot due to their height.
Once you have constructed the Ant Nest, interact with it to access the deposit option. Select your current Ant companion and store it in the nest.
By doing this, you can hatch the Orb Weaver and remove the Ant from your active companion slot in Grounded 2.

How to Get Your Orb Weaver Back
Return to the Hatchery and work with the finished Orb Weaver Buggy after the 24-hour incubation period is over.
To remove your new friend from its egg, choose the retrieve option. The Orb Weaver will start following you and become your active companion right away.
Orb Weaver Capabilities
Compared to the typical Ant, your new Orb Weaver companion has several benefits. Because of its greater size and strength, the Orb Weaver is more useful in battle.
It moves between 20 and 60 percent faster than the Ant, increasing its travel efficiency throughout the game world.
The Orb Weaver can provide vital combat support from a distance with its Web Throw ranged attack.
This ability is beneficial for engaging enemies that are difficult to reach or for providing cover fire during retreats in Grounded 2.
The Orb Weaver's Intimidate ability gives them a tactical advantage in combat and can also defeat some enemies.
The enhanced mobility and combat capabilities make the Orb Weaver a superior choice for exploration and combat, though the extensive requirements to obtain one mean it becomes available only after completing most of the missions in Grounded 2.
