Ryzen 2400G in 2026: Still Worth It or Too Outdated for Modern Games

Ryzen 5600 upgrade transforms gaming stability and significantly improves frame time consistency.

Ryzen 5 2400G is one of AMD's initial Ryzen APUs. It has four cores and eight threads, and the Vega 11 GPU is built in. It is an older CPU that is now easy to find. We got ours for roughly $35 from the Facebook secondhand marketplace, which was a good value. 

The aim is to find out whether this CPU can still handle today's workload. We use its built-in graphics, and we also check whether it's possible to upgrade to an RTX 3060 12GB to go with this processor, especially for people who already have it. Later, we compare it against the Ryzen 5600, a recent AM4 processor that costs roughly $80 on AliExpress.

How well do Vega 11 integrated graphics work for gaming

We begin with games that use the Vega 11 graphics built in. It struggles in Warzone. Even with FSR3 set to Performance, we run out of VRAM and get very poor fps. The lows are really awful, and there are stuttering issues.

The same thing happens in Fortnite. During build conflicts, we witness severe stuttering and lows that persist at low values. FPS stays below 100. The experience is different in PUBG. We push the GPU to its limits and still get roughly 40 fps, even with smokes. There is stuttering. Lows aren't as awful, but the general framerate stays around 40.

It's the same in Valorant. At 1080p, the frame rate is below 100 fps, and during busy scenes, stuttering is clear. You can play the game, but it doesn't always work. With Performance render scale, we obtain roughly 30 fps at 1080p low in Helldivers 2. There is stuttering. The scenario is CPU-limited; therefore, the GPU is not operating at full capacity.

2400G and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB go well together

The findings vary when we add the RTX 3060 12GB, although not necessarily for the better. We are plainly CPU-limited in Warzone. Stuttering persists, and the 1% lows remain at 13 fps.

It's the same in Fortnite. Even with a better GPU, 1% lows don't improve because the CPU is the problem. The overall frame rate increases, but the lows remain the same. In PUBG, the CPU becomes the bottleneck. CPU usage reaches 99%, and frame times are worse than with Vega 11. Vega 11 is slower, but it provides frames more consistently than the RTX 3060 with the 2400G.

Compared to Vega 11, Helldivers 2 runs better. RTX 3060 12GB offers more room to grow and better frame rates, making the game easier to play.

Gameplay in the Real World with 2400G and RTX 3060 12GB

When you play Warzone, your CPU usage can reach 90% to 91%. The game uses more than 8 threads, which causes it to stutter and drop to 1% lows around 13 fps, with an average of 54 fps.

The frame rate in Helldivers 2 is about 50 fps, with a low of 39. The CPU is using roughly 89% of its power, and the GPU is using about 62%. It can be played, but it's not smooth.

Arena Breakout Infinite runs at about 60 fps, but there are some small stutters and frame time spikes. It is still possible to play. Fortnite's fps stays at 100 or lower. The CPU is using more than 80% of its power, while the GPU is using about 35%. The GPU isn't being used enough. You can play, but fights in builds might make the game slow.

Valorant runs at about 180 fps. The CPU usage hovers around 50%, while the GPU clock speeds remain low. The Performance is better than Vega 11, but the CPU still holds it back.

FPS in PUBG is about 60. The CPU is using more than 90% of its power, and the GPU is running at about 1900 MHz. You can play it, but it's not smooth.

When there are a lot of people in Apex Legends, the fps stays below 100. Frame times aren't always the same, and lows can drop to 37 fps. The CPU slows down the whole system.

When compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 5600

It's easy to see the difference between the 2400G and the Ryzen 5600. 5600 has steady frame rates in Warzone, but the 2400G stutters. In Valorant, the 5600 gets about 900 fps, whereas the 2400G with the RTX 3060 gets about 280 fps. GPU usage increases significantly.

5600 runs PUBG smoothly. Even though the fps may look good in controlled testing, the 2400G has stuttering. 2400G gets about 90 fps in Helldivers 2, and the 5600 gets close to 140 fps. 5600 uses more of the GPU, allowing it to show more frames.

Final Thoughts

Ryzen 2400G is getting old. It can play games with the built-in graphics, but you shouldn't expect too much from it. When you pair it with an RTX 3060 12GB, the average fps increases, but the CPU bottleneck persists and slows frame times. If you want to upgrade your AM4 system, the Ryzen 5600 will make it much more stable and faster overall.
