This part of the journey pushes you toward the weathered Imperial Japanese Army bunker embedded in the cliffs above Shipwreck Beach. Getting there demands a grueling climb.

Getting inside requires you to outsmart its security. Surviving means facing whatever—and whoever—has been left guarding its heart.

Approaching the Facility

Start at Shipwreck Beach, go up past the silo, and then go to the cliffside facility. You might run upon two foes.

Kill them with headshots and take their goods. Keep going through the hills and jumps until you reach the entryway.

Inside the Facility

Once you're inside, use the Grenade Launcher to break down two metal walls that block small rooms. Both rooms are close by, and it's worth checking them for supplies.

Solving the Elevator Puzzle

Your goal is to sabotage the elevator to go deeper into the facility. Use your Pry Axe to break four sets of gears.

Find three by stopping the elevator at each floor, calling it to your level, and breaking the reachable gears.

For the last gear, make sure the elevator is on the fourth floor, then go down one floor. Use your Shotgun to destroy the wooden barricade on the north-facing wall of the elevator shaft.

Call the elevator down from the fourth to the third floor. When it rises, jump through the breached wall onto a climbable surface to reach the final gear's access hatch.

Reaching the Inner Chamber

After you sabotage the elevator, head down the last hallway. Take out the two or three enemies blocking your way and get ready for a big fight ahead.

Finding the Research Base Treasure Map

You'll find the Research Base Treasure Map before the final chamber. Check the stack of shell containers near the black-and-yellow turntable on the floor—the map is hidden inside.
