A guide on how to escape the Scavenger's Den in Tomb Raider.

This walkthrough explains how to escape captivity. To progress through the first area, the sequence begins with limited control and focuses on simple interactions.

The Cocoon's Escape

A scene with little movement opens the game. Your objective is to swing the cocoon you are trapped in. You are now free to explore the first location, Scavenger's Den.

Ignore any visual distortions on the screen; they will cease after you leave this initial area. Proceed to an altar and locate a Torch on the left side.

Proceeding Through the Den

You can use the Torch to ignite other cocoons, but this yields no items. Your only path is through the sole available passage.

When you reach a barricade, hold the action button to set the debris on fire and open the way forward. Continue ahead to a narrow passage; Lara will automatically squeeze through.

Using Survival Instincts

On the other side of the cave, the game introduces Survival Instincts. Activate this mode to highlight interactive objects.

First, interact with the lamp on your right to relight. Press the directional keys repeatedly or wiggle the left analog stick left and right until the camera angle changes and the nearby cocoon catches fire.

To bring the cocoon closer to the flames on the left, swing it once more. This releases you by igniting your cocoon.

First Steps and Investigations

As soon as you hit the ground, quickly press the action button on your torch. Next, make a left turn, get close to a shelf, and use the action button to scale it. Turn to the right and light more debris with your torch.

Getting Around the Cave Exit

Leap to the ground, wait for an explosion, and then proceed through the newly opened passage, which calls for another ascent.

Move close to a tiny opening so Lara can crouch and enter automatically. Be prepared; shortly after entering the dark tunnel, a mini-game is triggered where a man attempts to grab you.

Follow the on-screen instructions to push him back by quickly wiggling the analog stick left and right or tapping the directional keys.
