AMD 26.2.1 Drivers Tested: Performance Gains and Ongoing Issues

Optional February 2026 driver delivers selective performance gains with limited fixes and ongoing stability concerns.

AMD Adrenalin 26.2.1 drivers are the first update for February 2026. These drivers are not beta or required; they do make some modifications and improve performance.

The update doesn't add many new features, but it does add support for new games, make small adjustments, and enhance performance in some games.

What is Driver Versioning

The versioning is easy to understand: 26 stands for 2026, 2 for February, and 1 for the first revision of that month. These drivers are not required or recommended, but that doesn't mean they don't have room for improvement. In truth, some games do get better performance.

Support for New Games

The update adds compatibility for Nioh 3, Dark Ties, and Yakuza Kiwami 3. These additions ensure that these games work well together and run better.

Problems Fixed

This release officially fixes only two problems. We solved the problem with corrupted clouds that could appear while playing Art Raiders on RX 9000-series graphics cards. There was also a problem with The Finals crashing sometimes when ray tracing was enabled on RX 7000-series products.

Better Performance

Nioh 3 ran better on RX 7000 and RX 9000 series GPUs, and perhaps also on RX 6000 series GPUs. RX 7900 XT X saw a performance jump in tests, and the RX 9070 XT did too, but the gain seemed lower.

We also tried out Romeo Is a Dead Man, which just came out. RX 7900 XT did improve performance in measurable ways, but not by much. You should update to 26.2.1 if you're playing Nioh3 or Romeo Is a Dead Man. 26.1.1 remains stable, and 25.12.1 can still be used if you need it.

Fix for Recording

We confirmed that the recording issues were fixed in version 26.1.1. In older versions, recordings had problems with brightness, shadow levels, and contrast. The recording colors in AMD Adrenalin software are working well from 26.1.1 to 26.2.1.

Problems That Are Known

There are still a few problems that need to be fixed. When you load a saved game in Cyberpunk 2077 with route tracing turned on, you can get an application crash or driver timeout. AMD still says that a solution is in the works.

While playing Battlefield 6 on Ryzen AIX370 systems, you could also get a sporadic crash or driver timeout. Testing didn't always show the problem, but reports say it might still happen.

When you move between media on RX 7000 series GPUs while playing Roblox Player Cars Racing and Drifting, you may see crashes or driver timeouts. When AMD Record and Stream is enabled on some graphics products, Battlefield 6 may experience texture flickering or corruption. When AMD FSR upscaling and AMD FSR frame generation are enabled in Yakuza Kiwami3, Dark Ties, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on RX 9000 series graphics cards, they may appear as inactive in AMD Adrenalin software.

Even if you choose to install supplementary drivers, AMD Install Manager may not do so. It is recommended that users manually download and install supplementary drivers from the official page.

Advice on how to Install

When updating drivers, we suggest doing a clean install. Before installing new drivers, use DDU to remove any old drivers that might still be causing problems. This is especially important when upgrading from very old versions. A clean installation lowers the possibility of instability or unexpected behavior, but it isn't necessary for every upgrade.

Feature Quiet and Future Outlook

This release does not add any new features. There is no news about FSR4 support for older cards, no beta version of FSR4 INT8, no new machine learning frame generation titles, and no news about Radeon technologies that were already revealed.

We asked AMD about upcoming features, but they didn't provide any more details. Communication is still limited. There may be broader use of technology in upcoming releases like Crimson Desert and Death Stranding 2, though this has not been confirmed.

Final Thoughts

AMD Adrenalin 26.2.1 update is small and optional, and it fixes a few issues and improves performance in certain areas. This version may be good for you if you need fixes for specific titles or the latest software stack. If not, it's fine to stay on 26.1.1 or 25.12.1.

You can judge based on how much work you have and how many games you have. Testing on your own system configuration is still the best approach to find out how stable and fast your system is.
