AMD Adrenalin 26.6.1 Review: Bug Fixes, Game Support, and RX 9070 GRE Performance Issues

AMD Adrenalin 26.6.1 focuses on stability fixes while larger FSR 4.1 improvements remain expected in July.

AMD has published the Adrenalin 26.6.1 drivers, which are the first June 2026 driver update. The update adds several new games and resolves some previously reported problems, but it appears to be a small update before a larger one in July. The upcoming July drivers are expected to ship with Vulkan support and other enhancements for both older and newer GPUs, as well as FSR 4.1 for RDNA 3 GPUs.

The naming system is simple. The number 26 refers to the year the driver was issued in, 6 to the month of that year, and 1 to the first revision of the driver, issued during that month. These drivers are not that special on their own, and seem to be a stepping stone to the more convincing driver package promised for next month. There are some fixes and optimizations, but the focus is on what AMD will add with the July release.

Fixed Issues

An intermittent application crash that could occur while playing Subnautica 2 and Marvel Rivals on Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards has been fixed. These drivers might be necessary if you're playing either of these games, as previous versions like 26.5.1 and 26.5.2 have been known to crash in certain instances in both of them.

AMD has also fixed any visual issues that could occur while playing Enshrouded on Radeon RX 6000-series GPUs. Support for the RX 6000 series products shows that AMD is determined to keep these older GPUs up to date and fixed as it gets ready to support FSR 4.1. The other resolved issue is the Zero RPM mode issue for Radeon RX 9000 series graphics cards. Before this, the feature could re-enable itself after a monitor went to sleep or was powered off. This has now been corrected.

There are still some issues listed on AMD's known issues list. Playing Battlefield 6 on AMD Ryzen AI-powered systems can still cause application crashes or driver timeouts. This has been there for some months now and hasn't been resolved yet. On certain graphics products, if AMD Record and Stream is enabled, Battlefield 6 may also experience texture flickering or corruption during gameplay. This issue is still being investigated.

AMD also notes that FSR upscaling and FSR Frame Generation may appear inactive when running Battlefield 6 on Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in Adrenalin software. We've tried this ourselves and had the same problem using the 26.5.1 drivers. Subsequent drivers seem to have solved the issue, but some users still report it. During our tests, it was not present in Version 26.6.1.

Another known problem is Blender. According to AMD, the application may crash when using Blender on Radeon RX 7000 series and newer graphics cards. RX 7000 and RX 9000 series hardware were tested with the Vulkan API, and no issues were found. Others are still experiencing instability, however, so the problem may be specific to certain workflows/APIs.

Additionally, users of the HP Reverb G2 headset might experience a purple screen when using SteamVR on Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards. Now that the issue has been added to the known issues list, we hope AMD will fix it in a future driver update.

There are no Major New Features Yet

Aside from the official release notes, we didn't find anything significant new or secret in the 26.6.1 driver release. The update is mostly comprised of compatibility fixes and game support. We still think the July release will be the more significant one, with FSR 4.1, Vulkan fixes, and other fixes for older and newer Radeon graphics cards.

After switching from 26.5.2 drivers to the new 26.6.1 release, we did see some odd behavior with the Radeon RX 9070 GRE when moving it. For instance, the 26.5.2 drivers seem to provide more performance in Forza Horizon 6. Our testing shows that frame rates have been reduced by approximately 10 fps after upgrading to version 26.6.1.

This is not just a 1 fps or 2 fps hiccup; it's a measurable decrease in performance.

We believe that the problem could be caused by Smart Access Memory profiles, but we cannot be 100% sure. Whatever the cause, there is an obvious drop in performance. You might see the same behavior if you're playing Forza Horizon 6 frequently on your Radeon RX 9070 GRE. If so, you might want to try the 26.5.2 drivers, as they may offer improved performance and overall stability until AMD fixes the problem.

Adrenalin 26.6.1 drivers bring a couple of new titles to support and fix a handful of bugs impacting Radeon gamers, especially those playing Subnautica 2, Marvel Rivals, and Enshrouded. The update, however, adds no "significant features or additions to the platform".

At this time, we consider this a maintenance release until the larger July driver package is available. In the event of AMD following through on providing support for FSR 4.1, Vulkan and other improvements, the next release may prove to be a much bigger deal for Radeon owners of various generations.
