Steam Machine offers accessories to expand its functionality, including a Faceplate that houses the Steam Controller. You can find this Faceplate on Etsy; it attaches to the front of the Steam Machine and provides a place for the controller. The setup can be a bit of a pain, but once it is installed, it works as a controller holder.

The front of the Steam Machine remains accessible, and the included puck attaches to the Faceplate. It also has a cutout for the Steam Controller, so the controller sits directly on the front of the machine. The connection lets the Steam Controller charge while docked. The Faceplate also has a cutout at the top for the controller.

Setup Requires an Additional Wire

Once everything is connected, attach the face plate to the Steam Machine; the magnet holds it in place. The wires may still hang down from the bottom. If needed, you can tuck them in further to clean up the setup. After you attach the Faceplate, you can place the Steam Controller in the holder and remove it as needed.

The Faceplate holds both the Steam Machine setup and the Steam Controller. You can easily remove the controller and place it back on the holder. The faceplate isn't the prettiest option, especially when removed, but it is functional. That means you don't have to go around looking for the Steam Controller.

The Faceplate hosts the controller and charges it at the same time, giving the Steam Machine a dedicated place for the controller. The maker also deserves a shout-out because the first batch of the Faceplate had magnet issues. The magnets weren't strong enough to hold the controller, so it kept falling off.

The maker contacted the buyer and explained that the first batch of Faceplates had a defect.

The options were a refund or a magnet replacement with a small refund. That is what you could call good customer service. For this review, they sent a new Faceplate instead. The updated version works better, the cutout fits better, and the magnet is stronger.

The updated Faceplate provides a functional way to hold the Steam Controller on the Steam Machine. The controller can stay docked, charged, and stored in one place instead of being left elsewhere. If you want to mount the Steam Controller on the Steam Machine, this Faceplate gives you that option.
