Sony and Naughty Dog Provides New Gameplay Details for The Last of Us Part II, Teases New Infected

The Last of Us Part II will launch in a few weeks and leading up to the release Naughty Dog and Sony have been uploading videos about the development process. With the latest video from the State of Play presentation showing off new gameplay.

The presentation opens with a previously released trailer before showing off new gameplay elements. The first thing shown was the world and mobility options.

Ellie can now slip through small openings and use a grappling hook to climb down areas and swing through gaps. The world itself is a semi-open world, with multiple paths and optional areas for Ellie to explore for supplies. Ellie's horse will also play a major role in exploring the world.

Naughty Dog revealed the warring factions fighting in Seattle. The Washington Liberation Front is a group of well-trained soldiers who pushed out the military. They use dogs to track Ellie's movements, use can be seen using the sense mechanic, and heavy weapons from the military. The Seraphites are a religious group marked with scars on their faces. They use silent weapons such as bows and are more mobile thanks to their light armor.

Ellie has new tactics such as being able to take enemies hostage and more weapon customization options. Enemies are smarter this time around and will actively use tactics. In one scene Ellie charged an enemy while she was stunned with a smoke bomb but another enemy was lying in wait behind cover to ambush Ellie.

The infected will still be an absolute threat. With a new infected Shamblers explode when near a target and Naughty Dog has teased more infected not yet revealed. You can pit the infected, WLF, and Seraphites against one another if they're present within the field. Ellie will have help sometimes and judging from the footage Naughty Dog has improved the ally AI to be more effective.

The presentation ends with a short 8-minute gameplay trailer showing Ellie heading into Seattle and taking on several people from the WLF before reaching her primary target.

The Last of Us: Part II launches in June 19th for PS4.
