Fans of lesser known role-playing games (RPG) have some good news coming their way. Today, developer Snowcastle Games announced a sequel to their original franchise, Earthlock. Simply, the new title is called Earthlock 2 and it will appear on PC, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Additionally, aside from next generation consoles, the sequel will launch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Earthlock 2 doesn't have a lot of details for now. A short teaser just shows the world, together with one of the main characters in the game. The original Earthlock had turn-based combat, but the sequel is said to be different as "an open-world action RPG with complex interlocking systems that work together to offer players extensive freedom to customise their own experience."
The Earthlock franchise has a distinct atmosphere, reminiscent of Final Fantasy X or XII. Like the latter RPG series, the original Earthlock was remade and rereleased, after failing to live up to standards, quite like Final Fantasy XIV did. Development went through the Kickstarter process, which is always hard to maneuver, without some degree of financially forced compromise. Clearly, the RPG has always been a labor of love for independent developer Snowcastle Games, which offered the eventual sizable rerelease as a free upgrade.
To get people excited about the upcoming sequel, Earthlock is currently going on sale on Steam, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. A whopping 80% discount puts the game down to $5.89 or an equally converted price of €4.99; a rarity in regional pricing. That alone should show the dedication the independent developer has in doing the right thing.
Earthlock 2 has a Steam page up, where it's possible to wishlist the RPG ahead of time. Tell us if you're excited for the sequel in the comments.
