The September edition of Famitsu has hit newsstands in Asia and features an interview with Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura. While the first portion focuses on the newly announced Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory, Nomura did tease that the next installment is already being planned. “Kingdom Hearts will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2022, you know.” Nomura stated, “...and the Kingdom Hearts team has already started working on something new”. Famitsu further questioned what the story could entail, as the “Dark Seeker” plotline had concluded. Nomura didn’t indulge and simply stated “When we are able to announce something in the future, I think it will be full of surprises”.

Nomura clarified that the Switch would not receive ports of previous Kingdom Hearts titles, due to technical issues.
