WayForward and Arc System have announced that a sequel to River City Girls is on the way. Not many details were released, but the game will feature all four past characters: Misako, Kyoko, Kunio, and Riki. Official art also teased two new characters, including Marian from the Double Dragon series and another mysterious woman that is possibly a redesigned Provie of River City Ransom: Underground. Outside the normal Kunio game’s cast, WayForward has previously teased lots of other Technos characters including Billy and Jimmy Lee, Bullova, and Skullmageddon.
Along with the new game, WayForward revealed that they are porting and translating Shin Nekketsu Koha Kunio-tachi no Baka, which originally released on the Super Famicom only in Japan. The title will be rechristened River City Girls Zero to tie it into Misako and Kyoko’s first appearance. This might confuse some players, as around the first quarter of the game focuses solely on Kunio and Riki’s escape from an all-male prison. While Misako and Kyoko are eventually playable, their roles still take a back seat to the boys. Though, it is possible WayForward will change the script so that the girls are more predominant.
