Back 4 Blood received mixed reception due to the game's unbalanced special infected and lack of single-player progression at launch. A new update has improved the game and now the studio behind the game, Turtle Rock Studios, has been purchased by Tencent.
As reported by Business Insider:
“We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios,” said Steve Goldstein, president and general manager of Turtle Rock Studios. “Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit.”
For many, this is worrying. Tencent is a huge player in the gaming industry and operates in China with a heavy focus on mobile titles and monetization elements. Many are worried that Back 4 Blood will fall victim to these practices along with all future projects from the developer behind Left 4 Dead. It also adds more worry to Tencent's increasing control over the gaming industry, especially western owned companies.
