Action RPG games are among the genres that allow players to do what they want. Instead of offering a linear gameplay style, action RPG takes everything into account and paces the gameplay to the player’s own decisions, which is one of the reasons why the genre has recently been on the rise. Souls-likes, roguelikes, and similar genres tend to catch more attention than story-driven gameplays due to their replay value.
One of the solid contenders for an action RPG has been announced by Bandai Namco, one of the biggest names to deliver good quality titles since the 80s. This new action RPG title, SAND LAND, will be about a group of researchers and good-willed warriors trying to find spring sources in a vast desert. We will be experiencing our story through the protagonist, Beelzebub, a short-tempered but fiend Prince who is more courageous than everyone in the desert.
There will be other characters who will be accompanying Beelzebub, such as Thief as his chaperone and fearless Sheriff Lao. While the central part of SAND LAND is to find the Legendary Spring, players will have to go through the deeming tasks of exploration, crafting, and vehicular combat. Vehicles will have a big role in SAND LAND as they will be the main source of transportation between locations. Tanks, mechs, crawlers, bikes, and cars can be used during your missions to search ghost towns, settlements, and many other landmarks in the desert.
The most eye-poking detail of the SAND LAND is the art style, which is based on the design cues of the legendary mangaka Akira Toriyama. For those who do not know, Akira Toriyama created the popular Dragon Ball Z series, which had a distinct style compared to other mangas at the time. His style is mirrored as cell-shaded, cartoony graphics on SAND LAND, which perfectly fits the theme. Not only the visuals but also the characters are also based on Akira Toriyama’s designs, giving them a unique look.
With its completely free way of approach, likable characters, and superb art style, SAND LAND will offer a great experience in the action RPG genre. ILCA is currently developing the title, which will be published by Bandai Namco. SAND LAND is planned for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
