RTX 5090 Prices Hit $10,000 as Third-Party Listings Surge

GPU prices have been rising, with NVIDIA RTX 5090s seeing prices as high as $8,000, $9,000, and even $10,000. AMD prices have also risen, but not nearly as much. Based on today's averages, the RX 9070 XT typically costs around $850 to $900. Much of the current pricing is tied to AI and demand for RAM, especially DRAM, which remains an important factor for AI servers.

The question is whether the prices for RTX 5080s, RTX 5090s, and other graphics cards actually reflect the market. This matters for anyone building a PC in 2026. Pricing can be frustrating, especially for anyone building a new PC, and it can make PC building look more expensive than it is.

RTX 5090 Prices Reach Thousands of Dollars

Looking at Best Buy shows a different picture of PC pricing. Searching for an NVIDIA RTX 5090 can bring up listings priced at levels far above the original price. One key concept to understand when looking at these listings is third-party selling, which plays a major role in the prices shown. The Founders Edition has an original price of $2,000, although it is sold out.

Listings for 32GB RTX 5090 graphics cards are much higher. One listing is available for $7,509, while a CLX kit is listed for $7,089. RTX 5090 graphics cards are available, but the prices may not match what most PC builders expect. Best Buy is not the only retailer with these listings.

Newegg also shows RTX 5090 graphics cards at high prices. Searching for an RTX 5090 can show listings at $8,700 and $9,800. These numbers can make it look like the market price of an RTX 5090 has reached these levels. That does not mean every RTX 5090 is actually being sold at those prices.

Third-Party Listings Change the Displayed GPU Prices

The high prices on major retailer websites can be misleading because many of these graphics cards aren't sold directly by the retailer. Third-party sellers sell them. This applies across different retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg. The listing may appear on the retailer's website, but another company may be the actual seller.

The current market therefore has two separate issues. One is the prices third-party sellers charge, and the other is the actual availability of RTX 5090 graphics cards from retailers. If you are looking for an RTX 5090 and can't get one directly, pre-built PCs offer another option. For example, the PowerSpec G48 PC comes with an RTX 5090.

The system uses the Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 5090 along with the rest of the PC hardware. The difference becomes more noticeable when comparing a GPU-only listing with a complete system. A Best Buy listing can show an RTX 5090 for $7,509 on its own, while a pre-built PC includes the RTX 5090 plus the CPU, motherboard, memory, storage, power supply, and other components.

On Newegg, you can look for listings that are in stock and sold by Newegg. This helps you avoid third-party listings priced far above normal retail. The same applies to Best Buy. You can select the option for products sold and shipped by Best Buy.

When purchasing an RTX 5090, checking the seller is one of the most important steps.

Once you select that option, many third-party listings disappear. This does not mean RTX 5090 graphics cards will suddenly become available. It simply removes third-party listings from the search and gives a clearer view of what the retailer offers. You can use the same process when looking at other GPUs. 

Checking the seller before purchasing can help prevent you from paying a price that doesn't reflect the retailer's own pricing. If you are building a gaming PC and need a GPU, you don't need to go straight to an RTX 5090. An RTX 5080 can be sufficient for many gaming systems. The RTX 5070 Ti can also provide the performance needed for gaming.

RX 9070 XT is another option. You don't need an RTX 5090 just because some listings show extremely high prices, especially if the system isn't used for workloads that require 32GB of VRAM. If you are not gaming at 4K or 5K, you may not need to prioritize the RTX 5090's 32GB of VRAM. You can avoid the higher price of the RTX 5090 by choosing GPUs that better match your PC's needs.
