The PSVR is one of the most popular VR headsets on the market today, selling over 1 million headsets and now Sony is updating the model for better sound and ease of use.
The new version called CUH-ZVR2 will cost the same as when the headset went live back in October 2016, $400, and include:
Stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset
Streamline Connection Cable
Small Design
HDR
"A hardware update to PlayStation VR is being prepared. The new version, model number CUH-ZVR2, features an updated design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. There’s also an updated Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit in between the TV and the PS4 system. This function can be used only when the VR headset is turned off."
Sony has confirmed that the packaging will be different so consumers don't confuse the older model, which is $50 cheaper now, from the modern model. However, while you cannot swap out processor units for either model both will be compatible will all PSVR games.
The new hardware launches next month but will be available in Japan on October 14th.
