StarCraft fans have been waiting twelve long years for a sequel, and finally, after much anticipation that day has arrived. July 26 marks the release of what is sure to be one of the fastest and greatest selling games of all-time, with reports of nearly a million copies being pre-sold already. That number is set to reach passed the million mark and beyond by the end of the week.

While StarCraft II probably won’t reach the dizzying heights of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which to date is the most successful entertainment launch in history, it will surely break most, if not all PC records. Millions of stores worldwide have already staged successful midnight launches, so eager fans can get their hands on a copy.

In addition to the launch, the development costs of the game have also been brought into the spotlight this past week, with The Wall Street Journal claiming the game cost 100 million dollars to make. However, a statement from the developers has recently quashed this, stating, “Blizzard Entertainment has never disclosed the development cost of StarCraft II, and for competitive reasons, we will not do so”.
